Still heading south along the Pacific Coast in Mexico

Hey folks,

Sorry we have not blogged in a while. Blogging in Mexico is complicated- you need to have all sorts of tools, like high-speed internet, patience, good conditions, perfect weather, patience, and magic.  Anyway, we have had problems with blogger so you can check out our photostream on flickr which has been more cooperative for uploading.   http://www.flickr.com/photos/11348151@N06/

We are now kicking it on our second farm in Rebalsito, Mexico.  We are having a lot fun and quiet. It is mostly a coconut and mango farm and is only 10 minutes by a beautiful bike ride from Tenacatita Beach and Jalisco's largest coral reef. Life is good here. We usually do our watering duties and chores like burning palm frawns and taking care of the plants in the morning and head to the beach in the afternoon.

Estamos en Mexico

We arrived in Puerto Vallarta on Monday. It was about a three hour flight from LA. When we got off the plane, we decided to take a bus into town. On the bus, we were soon greeted by clowns in costume (with really great face paint) they put on a show for the passengers and asked for donations. It was hot and crowded on the bus and a little tricky because there were no open seats and we were standing in the aisle with our big backpacks on. We only stayed aday in Puerto Vallarta. The crowd is mostly American tourists in their sixties and the restaurants were expensive.

We are now in Sayulita, a fun little surf town north of Puerto Vallarta. It just so happened that the day we arrived was ¨Sayulita Day¨ and there were vendors selling food, candy and all kinds of other goods. There were also carnival rides and games. We went on the ferris wheel, which was a lot of fun. For thw fir the big fat tuesday fiesta, there were Mariachi bands playing in the streets all night and we also saw a reggae band play one of the local bars. People are very lively and surfing culture is big here. There are many gringos here and ¨Sayulita life¨ is the saying here. Everyone is very nice.

Yesterday we explored some of the nearby beaches and Jason did some skimboarding while Viktoriya slept under the palm trees. At night we went to another reggae party unil the lights went out and then we headed back to our hotel which is right on the beach. We love going to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing at night.

Our Journey Has Begun!

Our journey has finally begun! We arrived safely in San Francisco after two weeks in Florida and New York. We have spent the past several days exploring the California coast. Despite the rainy conditions we managed to have a great time in the Bay Area. We reconnected with old friends went to a few house parties (one with a rooftop jacuzzi), visited the museum of the African Diaspora and saw the golden gate bridge. It was a fun time and we had lots of laughs.
We stayed in the Castro (gay SF) with our gracious friends Colleen and Tim. - It was a gay old time!

We bowled in Berkely where Laura smoked us with a high score of 126.  We even managed to help babysit some kids we never saw.  So far we have had Mexican food about 4 times in the past 7 days so we are getting ready for lovely Mexico.  We started our journey down the coast on the Pacific Coast Highway on the 2/17/09.  The following three days driving alongside the pacific were breathtaking. There was the ocean clear and blue and us cruising down the road in no other than a Chevy Impala.  The image of the open road will be permanently ingrained in our memory.
